Attractions within 3 hour’s drive from Malaga

If you hire a car in Malaga, you can reach the following attractions within three hours:

Sierra Nevada National Park

The Sierra Nevada National Park is one of two national parks in Spain. Sierra Nevada means “snowy range” in English and the Sierra Nevada Mountains include continental Spain’s highest mountain, the Mulhacén, which is 3,482m high.

The Sierra Nevada Mountains are best known as a skiing destination. The Sierra Nevada Ski Resort offers you a choice of over 70 ski-runs around Mount Veleta and you take advantage of the fact that there’s brilliant sunshine there for most of the winter.

The resort’s main village is Pradollano, and you’ll find hotels, bars and restaurants here so it’s a good place to stay for a few days. You can take a chair lift to the central ski station, Borreguiles, which opens out to a massive bowl with wide, smooth runs, perfect for those learning to ski for the first time. A lift system will take skiers to intermediate and advanced runs. Other winter sports activities that you can try at the Sierra Nevada Ski Resort include tobogganing, ice-skating, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and telemark, a relatively new sport that combines cross-country and alpine skiing. You can also go dog-sledding or take a trip in a snowmobile.

The skiing season runs from December until May. During the summer there is no snow, but the there is still plenty that you can do in the Sierra Nevada National Park. You can walk, hike, climb, horse-ride, cycle and paraglide in the park, and it’s home to many animals, birds and plants – you may be able to spot a golden eagle. There are two visitor centres in Sierra Nevada National Park: El Dorjano, in the west, and Láujar de Andrax in the east. These are great places to start your tour of the park. If you hire a car in Malaga, you can reach the Sierra Nevada National Park in just over two hours.
